Why do I feel rough "bumps" of friction at the bottom of my rib when I breathe?

I'm a 23 year old female, pretty healthy except for the following symptoms which really scare me. For almost two years, I have had strange symptoms in my chest throughout the day every day. I get stabbing momentary pains all over my chest wall, front and back high and low, at random times. But what really scares me is the vibrations I feel at the bottom of my right rib when I breathe in most positions. On inhale and exhale, I feel like inside my chest there is something happening like a stick dragging against a fence. It's the same pattern on the inhale and exhale. It's like the friction of something rough rubbing against my ribs... something that shouldn't be there. My boyfriend can HEAR it when he puts his ear up to it. I can't hear it but I feel the vibrations and it scares me all the time. From looking around on Google it must be similar to a "pleural rub" sound. Sometimes I feel twitching in the same area.

I have no health insurance now, but I have been to several doctors about it and none have been able to help. I got 2 xrays which showed nothing. They were going to do a cat scan but I was no longer able to pay for insurance.

Hello~I highly suspect that your condition warrants a visit to the chiropractor. It would appear that you have some misplaced vertebrae out of alignment alone the rib case, and this can certainly cause the chest wall pain. A chiropractor has many more years training in reading x-rays, so, if possible, try to get your x-rays and take them to your first chiro appointment. After a few treatments, you should start to be pain free.
