Why do I have an extended abdomen?

I recently got Costochrondritis (spelling is close). My MD tells me a rather severe case..however I bicycle 4 times a week (about 45 minutes) and work out with weights 2x a week (medium strength) and I got this from leaning over the car seat (putting all my weight on one specific rib) to tightening the little one's car seat. I weigh about 113lbs and am about 5'5. And I stopped nursing the baby about 3 months ago.

Side items..I look a bit drawn, a little bit thin. I eat lots of raw fruits and veggies, oatmeal, protein, etc. Very healthy diet.(recently cut down on fun carbs. - crackers, healthy chips, etc.). Had blood work done about a month prior to Costochrondritis -- every thing normal.

Here is the question - I do not recall if my abdomen started extending prior to the costochrondritis. However it is now 3 or 4 inches extended. My Md did suggest Chiropratic therapy for the costochrondritis and I have been going now for 3 weeks. The abdomen is hard..no pain or discomfort..regular bowel movements as usual. What could this be? And what treatment options are there? (Side item -could my connective tissue be weak and how do you get it strong again?)

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The distended abdomen could be due to some movement done by the chiropractor. The other possibility is an epigastric hernia due to weight lifting etc.  Get this ruled out by a doctor. The third possibility is that you have developed a lipoma.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult your doctor to rule out these possibilities.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

I have been diagnosed with costochrondritis also. There is no relation to the distended abdomen that I am aware of. (Im not a doctor). Things I found on the web related to the abdomen are things like gas, swallowing air (nervous people), also things like iritable bowel and other. Of course their is pregnancy and tumors also. Talk to your dr. Get well soon!
