i started having a really bad sore throat 2 days ago, with extreme body ache. I didnt have a fever on the first day, but developed a low grade fever (37.6) on the second day. This is by far the worse sore throat i have had in my entire life. I went to a walk-in clinic yesterday and the doctor told me i might be having throat infection and he put me on antibiotics (cefrpozil 500, twice a day). I took the first dose.
Anyways i'm just wondering if this is throat infection shouldn't i be having a higher fever? he took a sample from my throat but said the results will be in, in few days, by then i will be on my 3-4th day of antibiotics, I have no idea why he would put me on antibiotics if he couldn't tell for sure if its viral or bacterial.
I'm kind of scared it might be something more serious, because to be honest i can't swallow food, i cant swallow anything even water. It's the worst sore throat i have ever had. I got mono one 4 years ago but the doctor thinks it is unlikely that im having mono again. Any ideas what this could be? do you agree with doctor's opinion on this being a throat infection? if yes how long would it take to see improvement from the antibiotics?
