blood work

I had blood work done a month ago and I called the doctors office and the receptionist said she "hoped" the doctor would be calling me back soon!!! How unprofessional!!! Should I keep calling so I can find out my results? I think a month is long enough to wait!!!

Assuming the doctor submitted the sample to the lab the day it was taken. (thats the normal procedure), he should have the results in a week tops. If I were you, I would be assertive on this, remember you're paying the doctor for his services, he works for you!

This was my routine blood work, but I am just very upset that I can not get the results of my blood work from him!! How soon do you think the doctor has the blood work results in their hands from the lab?  I am just afraid that if there was something wrong a month is going by and something could need treatment.

A month is way too long, especially if you have, or suspect you have a problem, you don't say why you had the blood work done. I would definitely keep calling the doctor until you get a response, and your next visit to him you should express your displeasure. If your doctor is not responsive to your needs and concerns it's time to start shopping for a new one.

I have blood work done every few months, and although my doctor will take the sample in his office and submit for analysis, I always have it drawn at our local hospital. That way I know when it is submitted and I can stop back in 2 or 3 days and get a copy of the results for myself to review before I discuss it with my doctor. I firmly believe that being proactive in all your health care is vitally important and making sure you get the right care is up to YOU.

Do you think that the doctors office should have gotten back to me by now? My doctor is something of a scatterbrain, maybe it is time for me to get a new doctor.

Yes, keep bugging your doctor's office. Or ask if you need to make another appointment to see the doctor to discuss your results. Where I live in Canada the receptionist or nurse is not allowed to give me the results of most tests, I have to make an appointment with the doctor to find out. Usually I was told the results were back and the doctor preferred to speak to me in person.
