combination of problems

It started off with a cervical neck strain back in 1999 which was treated with physical therapy.  I still experienced a popping in my neck on the right side and my head would fall to the right side and my shoulder and arm would go numb.  While driving my arm would go numb, MRI was taken that showed a little fluid in my shoulder but the Dr. did nothing here I am in 2010 and I am still having stiffness in my neck my shoulder popping and my arm going numb it is simple as drinking a bottle of water and my arm would give out and I would drop it.  I was told to take four ibuprofen for the pain and to cope. I have my first child on the way and I am afraid I will not be able to hold her. I am tired of the stiff neck and back pain and numbness in my arm and shoulder what is it  by the way I am only 25 year old male

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
There is a chance that you have compression of the spinal nerves in the cervical spine region. This can happen due to overuse of computers, work involving straining of neck, herniated disc, canal stenosis, bone disease, spondylosis, poor posture etc. A MRI of the cervical spine and nerve conduction studies may be required. Please consult a neurologist. The treatment is to remove the compression. You have to discuss the best treatment option with a neurologist, which can range from medication to physiotherapy to traction, cervical collars or even surgery. Alternatively you can visit a chiropractor or a physical therapist and learn some exercises which you can do to relieve the compression.
Hope this helps. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

I would make an appoint with a neurologist.  If you have an HMO... get a referral from your primary care physician.  I've had neck issues for years and ONLY see a neurologist or a neurosurgeon for my neck issues.  I have spinal stenosis, arthritis, bulging discs, and compression on my spinal cord.  This causes severe issues  and pain in my neck and down my arms.
However, The pain you are experiencing also sounds like what I had when I had an impingement in my shoulder.  I had surgery to shave down the bone and have never had the pain or clicking or weakness in my hand again!

Goodluck!!
