first time seizure in adulthood?

This morning in the shower I think I had some type of seizure... I am 24 years old (female) and have never had a seizure before and neither has anyone in my family. It started with me feeling like I was blacking out (like you sometimes do if you stand up too quickly) and then I lost control of my body and could not stand up. After that I started shaking involuntarily, which lasted for less than a minute. I was conscious during the entire period and able to communicate with my partner who was trying to assist me. Also, following the event I have felt quite normal.

What could possibly have caused me to have this experience and how likely is it that is could happen again?

You defintely need to see a neurologist... but also I have a friend that was just sitting on the couch one  day very young..had a seizure & did pass out for a couple of moments, her husband took her to the ER & she was diagnosed with a brain tumor..not saying that is your case but you really need to seek medical attention for this.... good luck with everything

I would echo Laura's advice, in that it is essential that you see a neurologist straight away. No time to waste.

Have you been on any sorts of medication which may compromise your seizure threshold (wellbutrin, for example)? Do you have any other unusual symptoms?

Hang in there,
Michele

I agree with what she said about meds.  They did figure out when I had my seizure in 1996 that I was on placwenell (misspelled) that might have caused my seizure to happen.

I had one seizure when I was 18.  I am now 29 and still have not had another.
Consider yourself lucky.  When I had mine I was in my car in the school parking lot and I hit two other cars.  I was blue from what I understand and a mother picking up her son, she was a nurse and I guess gave me CPR.   I don't remember a thing, it was weird I didn't feel at all strange before hand and then all of a sudden I remember a emt guy standing over me and to this day i remember he had his ears pierced.  haha.  That was the first thing I remember.  Have you been under any stress?
Heres the thing you need to see a doc though.  If you know that you had one, and don't do anything about it and have a wreck while driving you could get into some trouble.  Docs will give you a EEG to check for any activity.
You really need to see a doc.  Neurologist asap.
