First of all, thank you for your concern!
A carboxyhemaglobin test has been done. 5.1 one time 4.9 another. I am a soon to quit smoker. At first the doc said this level did seem high, but after he spoke  to a pulm dr, he said it was consistent w a smoker. recently i noticed shortness of breath after getting on the company elevator, and another time when entering a different larger elevator. Someone mentioned airborne mold. I found on this sight Occupational Asthma. There are also other co-workers, young, Asian, (light build as i am), non smokers, who have nearly fainted. At times the air seems (to me) to be very thin. I think the maintenance  crew has trouble with the HVAC, calling in CI3, a contractor, to help.  The building is only 2 yrs old, added on to an existing bldg. I question sick bldg syndrome. I'm very concerned and also afraid of being a whistle blower. Its a great pay job, at a casino, run by the county, but i physically cant handle much more.  I need an attorney who will help me in the Iowa area, for work comp, missed time at work, going home after near fainting. I know your thinking, going after deep pockets. I'm not! I love my job as a card dealer. Worked for them 4 yrs now. In new addition 1 &1/2 before this started. Most attorneys have said it's too hard to prove, and it's too big of a can of worms to open. IAOSHA  has investigated, and said AQ was ok.  They did minimal tests. Pd off??? i think so! I guess my days are numbered.

First of all I believe you when you say the symptoms "only occur at work".

You've heard of Pavlov, of course. A steak was presented with a buzzer causing salivation. Later on, after "conditioning" the buzzer alone produced salivation.

Many bodily functions are conditionable, including so-called vagal responses and vasodilation. Usually there is a co-factor, such as anemia, or a low red blood cell count, reflected in a hematocrit below 30.

It is possible, something about the workplace disturbs you. It could be your boss. It could be your co-workers. It could even be a toxic substance.

The toxic substance could even be odorless. Hmmmm.

Another possibility is low-level carbon monoxide poisoning.

Every symptom you have could be explained by a history of CO exposure. Headache, myalgia, dizziness chronic fatigue, affective conditions...."the package".

This month the New England Journal of Medicine (March 18th 360;12 p1224) explored the effects of carbon monoxide in the workplace. I read this magazine religiously because I don't have a life. And the women in my life prefer millionaires with kidney shaped swimming pools.

Curiously, they review a case similar to yours.

Mild exposures to carbon monoxide causes hypoxia by forming carboxyhemaglobin and shifting the oxyhemaglobin disassociation curve to the left. You see Carbon Monoxide's affinity for hemoglobin is more than 200 times that of oxygen.

You need a carboxyhemaglobin level test.

It is very possible that there is a toxic level of CO where you work.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
The first possibility that needs to be probed is anemia.Low H b can cause all such symptoms. Then the other possibilities are chronic sinusitis, inner ear diseases, deficiency of zinc and vit B3 and neurological causes.Try taking some multivitamin-multimineral and iron supplements for some days and see if the symptoms persist.

If the symptoms persist then pls consult a physician/neurologist and get yourself evaluated for these.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.Kind regards.
