Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
A black coating on tongue can be due to poor oral hygiene, fungal infection of some types, smoking and side effects of some drugs. Do discuss this with your doctor (a dentist) and get yourself examined.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

A black coating on the tongue is a common side-effect of the Pepto-Bismol. It is only a temporary surface discoloration and does not indicate the presence of any disease. The Pepto may also cause darkening of stool, so, if that happens, don't be thinking of a bleeding ulcer either. you can research on google more . hope this help
