mri for everyone?

my doctor scheduled me for an mri but i was told by people i might not be able to have it.  reason being, i broke my collar bone almost 18 yrs ago and the doc did surgery. he cut a piece of my hip bone and wired it to my shoulder. i was told the mri could not be done because of the wires in my shoulder.  the nurse said it "should be okay"  nothing dangerous, that it "could"  distort the image.  my friends say it is highly magnetic and could rip the wires out of my shoulder.  i am leery of it now.     any info please

Unless you have a WHOLE lot of metal in one spot, you are totaly safe. people with metal plates in their heads get them done.

Hey, I don't think you have anything to worry about. I have metal in my jaw (joints) and i get x-rays of it from time to time. and hopefully someone will listen to me and set me up for an MRI of my head!! im supposed to be getting a CAT scan of my jaw for an upcoming surgery, but i've had an MRI in the past with the metal.
