nighttime discomfort, pawing feeling in feet, legs & back

i frequently have a feeling like something is in bed with me & i can only describe it as a feeling like a cat is pawing at my feet, legs or back, i thought for a long time a mouse or something similar was in my bed. it keeps me awake constantly & is a very peculiar sensation. has anyone any ideas as to what it is & the cause  & or cure for this condition? can someone please tell me what is the cause for this strange sensation?
