Have you been tested for gout? Gout causes inflammation and swelling in the feet. My friend has gout and he can't eat any red meat. If he does it causes inflammation. Also you might want your sugar levels checked if you have a family history of diabetes could be diabetic neuropathy? A endocrinologist can test you for both and knows the whole body better then a regular doctor.
yeah but that's a random therapy they don't even know why it helps some people with RA.
it's not worth taking antibiotics only for a small improvement
you said you had weakness in the legs, what happened to it? don't take the antibiotics, you could have something that will heal spontaneously when your immune system adjusts itself to whatever thing you caught (probably a virus)
antibiotics are meant to work only against bacteria. if they help when bacterial infection is not the problem it might be because they are working as immune suppressor.
i'll get test results when i go back on monday. i thought the same thing about him telling me i had psoriatic arthritis.
with the antibiotic some swelling went down and i was generally in less pain after about a month of taking it.
also, people do take minocycline for rheumatoid arthritis.
psoriatic arthritis without psoriasis sounds like a diagnostic stunt.
what was the improvement you had specifically while on the antibiotics?
they should try to treat you with Plasmapheresis, it's safe and worth trying.
what was the value of your Rheumatoid Factor? the fact that antibiotics helped doesn't mean it's RA.
i don't have any signs of psoriasis on my skin! but the actual symptoms match up pretty good with psoriatic arthritis, which is pretty much the same as rheumatoid arthritis without all the skin problems.
and as far as the antibiotic, do a little research about minocycline and rheumatoid arthritis.
i actually got some minocycline from my general doctor and took it for about a month and it definitely made a difference. i know it made a difference because i quit taking it for about a week and a half and i kind of flared up again. i'm taking it again and i plan to take it for a while and see how it does. i'll keep you posted. i also go back to the rheumatologist on monday. he told me the minocycline doesn't work, so i'm expecting a pretty interesting appointment. haha
you have psoriasis? I have psoriasis too. now it's almost gone, I changed diet and I gave up booze and cigs.
also the Neurologist I saw the first thing he asked me was if I my psoriasis was looked after by someone and at first he thought of vasculitis which happens in people with psoriasis , they say.
another doctor also had told me it could have been psoriatic arthritis.
the doctor is wrong
he just sees psoriasis and says "psoriasis!".
why would you take antibiotics any ways?
Psoriatic arthritis has nothing to do with your symptoms.
have you had any improvement any ways? still weak on the legs? did you see a Neurologist?
alright, sorry i haven't posted in here in a while. i have been to a rheumatologist now and he seems pretty certain it is psoriatic arthritis. i'm supposed to be following up with him sometime next week to get my test results and talk about meds. i think i'm going to take the minocycline approach and see how that works for me.
Hi Micfly I am doing better but not over this thing, residual weakness and pain in the left hand and left foot.
I don't think the pills you're taking have had any effect it is normal that the swelling will be coming and going while getting better if your problem was Immunological. your immune system is still getting adjusted to whatever you caught during the Fall.
You should see a Immunologist or Rheumatolgist maybe they could give you a therapy , Interferon, Immune suppressants, steroids, Plasmapheresis. there are some things that can be tried although they are a lot behind on these type of issues so if you had to spend money on a Specialist I suggest you find someone who's a true researches and can think independently from the rest of the flock.
you too take care!
I'm wondering how Wesbrown is doing
OMG im sorry ive been away. how are you ? geeze that poor guy. thank the goodness i didnt have pain. my update is..... swelling was ALMOST,all gone. i had a strong cup of coffee one sat. morning, didnt shower and put shoes on right away ,and stopped taking my pills.well,BAD CHOICES. BY SAT. AFTERNOON my feet, mostly right one, were swollen. they are still doing this off and on,just not half as big as before. but now .......................get this, MY HIPS.! when i squat, sit.or bend over longer then one or two min. the joints kind of lock up. theyre stuck,STIFF, and hurt like hell. tilol i walk it out. takes at least 5min. to do this. but this to will move along. Im not keeping it.!!!!! Again, very sorry for taking so long ro reply. such a long . PM<S i never did get blood work done or see dr. GREAT JOB getting bettr.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! well working towards it anyway. keept up. take care.
working on that. just a pain because everybody requires referrals, i can't just go about all this by myself.
when I had that problem of weakness in the legs I made some mistakes similar to yours I didn't go directly to the Neurologist and wasted time on mostly useless doctors and tests, angiologist, MRI lumbar, STDs, 2 x-rays to the spinal cord... orthopedic, physiatrist etc.
if your doing MRI Lumbar it will be probably negative, in any case even the worst kind of spinal disc herniation couldn't explain your symptoms.
the first test you should do is EMG to the legs. eventually MRI brain/spine (cervical and dorsal)
in the eventuality that you aren't getting any better, Lumbar Puncture to test the Cerebral Spinal Fluid for infections or immunological problems.
get an appointment with Neurologist and Rheumatolgist
well, i had some other blood work done. still show nothing there. i also got a referral to go get an mri of my lower back, thinking it could be something wrong with my spine causing all these problems. which was one of my original ideas. i will probably get the mri done today or tomorrow. i'll keep you posted on the results.
and it's not that i'm scared, really. it's more of me just annoyed and tired of hurting all the time. i really just want my normal life back.
well he's right, your problem has nothing to do with vascular issues.
it's normal in your conditions to be anxious and angry eventually because you're scared. but you don't sound too lucid either, I think that this "thing" affecting you has slowed you down a bit.
therefore you need to "slow down" too. stay calm and take your time to make decisions.
I still don't know what tests you did but in short you need to see a Neurologist and/or Rheumatolgist.
good luck with the Docs. and let me know how it goes!
well, vascular surgeon ******* said he didn't think it was a circulation problem. he didn't really take me seriously though. i got sent to a ****** doctor.
when you say they checked for nerve damage you mean a manual examination?
did they do EMG? the insert needles in your muscles and check if they are reached by the electrical signal from the brain. if it's as bad as you can hardly walk up and down the stairs something should show up on that test.
stay calm any ways hopefully it will be something that will regress spontaneously. I had sudden weakness in the legs between October and June, peripheral Neuropathy, back pain etc. i could only walk really slow. now it seems to be getting better.
the Neurologist will check your eyes too. did you notice any slight loss of vision or visual field? peripheral vision?
slight loss of coordination in your movements?
symptoms of the cognitive functions, is it "hard to think" ?, confusion, forgetfulness? irritability?
they have checked for nerve damage in my feet and legs, everything normal. i'm having an mri of my neck, head, and lower back today. maybe it will show something.
i don't remember anything too strange going on prior to all this, but then again i got married in october, so i might have just been overlooking something because i had so much other stuff going on. i'm trying to get an appt. scheduled with a rhematologist, and a neurologist. it's just taking a long time because i'm having to go through other doctors and do the whole referral thing. the only thing that was out of line on my bloodwork was my cholesteral was a little low. there is weakness in my legs and everything is getting worse.
I see. I guess you've been visited by specialists, which ones? Neurologist?
did you check those blood tests personally, was there anything out of range? WBC ? do you have a copy of the tests?
did they test you for ANA antibodies, Rheumatoid Factor and Complements System?
MRI brain/spine ? Lumbar Puncture?
going back to your symptoms. which was the first symptom you remember in November?
is the weakness in the legs only and when did it begin? is it getting better or worse?
the first test they should've run is Electromyography to the legs. (EMG)
do you remember having unusual headache between September and November preceding the symptoms? watery nasal drip, diarrhea, numbness and tingling in the face or other parts of the body?
this has all been going on since about november. and yes, definitely have weakness. i can't even walk around the house in the mornings without having to hold onto walls and doors. i can't walk!
if you look at it on the bright side at least the swelling can be seen they're not saying you're a psychopath. which is what they always do after they run their bronze-age blood and radiological tests.
When did you start to feel sick. when did the swelling begin? do you also have weakness? any other symptoms?
hey, sorry for the delay, didn't check my email over the weekend.
i have been to an orthopedic doctor back in november when all this started. he thought it was a stress fracture and i had a nucleur bone scan. it didn't really show anything but he didn't know what else to tell me. i didn't go back to him because he was out of ideas. as soon as a doctor tells me he doesn't have any idea what could be wrong i move along, i'm not trying to waste a bunch of time with some doctor who is going to try the same treatment over and over again when it's not working. there is redness around the swollen areas. it really looks like one of my toes is getting ready to just fall off. i also think it is a little warm to the touch. when i had my blood work done they checked for about 7 or 8 different things. i know gout and arthritis were checked and everything came back normal. also, my right foot is starting to swell and hurt really bad too. my feet are the only things i can tell are physically swelling, but my whole body aches. i'm almost to the point of buying a wheelchair for myself. seriously. it's that bad.
Sounds like Fibromyalgia....my best friend has had the same issues you have. No one seems to know what it is....they treat her like she is crazy or a drug addict because they can't find anything wrong with her in any of the tests they have done. She has had hormones checked, thyroid checked, multiple MRI's which the last showed some "plaques" on her frontal lobe of the brain, but they didn't act like that was a big deal...she had been going through this for almost 2 years now. She was finally given something for her pain management, because it got so bad she couldn't get out of bed...but she still has no "official" diagnosis. We are both nurses and have started to do a lot of research over the last year and we both think that Fibromyalgia is what she has. Sorry you are in so much pain. Hope you can get some relief soon.
i know once a swelled and painly foot was because of rheumatoid arthritis...
about your blood i cant say anything but if im correct there are also types of arthritis that can not be seen by blood research, but not sure though.. it also depends offcourse if the bloodwork was checked for arthritis or not.
when does it hurt and when not? only when you move those parts?
Hmmm. That does sound a little odd. What did the doctor say exactly were the indications of the MRI result? Did they say what could be causing the presence of the "fluid"? What kind of docs have you seen? Have you seen an orthopedic doctor?
Swelling definitely indicates some kind of inflammatory process. Is there any redness where the swelling is? Are the areas warm or hot to touch? Any other problems? Fever? What tests have you had done, and what kind of bloodwork?
