pain in ribs after pneumonia

I had pneumonia in my left lung 3 weeks ago which was very painful. I now have completed antibiotics but still have pain in my lower rib area that is very sharp when I yawn, cough,  laugh or burp. This pain is not getting better. I had an ARNP tell me she does not hear any air movement in my lower lung. I'm curious What may be causing the pain. I never had it before the pneumonia and it doesn't seem to be going away.

Same here.. I was in the hospital from Jan. 17-23 Pneumonia in my Left "lobular pneumonia" here we are now on Feb 20, 2022 and my left rib cage feels like someone hit me hard there.. but my 02 is in the mid 90%.. but it really hurts to cough sneeze as you say burp.. which sucks because I am supposed to be trying to cough up remnants of the phlegm, But coughing is painful so tend to try to suppress it.. I have a Lung cancer screen CT this Tues the 22.. I guess I shall see what the results are and pray it's not anything really serious.. I have in the past due to an injury at work where I tore all the intercostal muscles in my right rib cage separated.. I forgot how much that hurt til now..

As suggested DSMO works well, but there is a proviso. DSMO is a solvent that will cause whatever is on the skin to go into the system. Wash the chest area thoroughly with mild soap and rinse again and again. Apply the DSMO with a one-time use sterile swab and only use medical grade diluted DSMO.

DSMO is also available as a cream in many health stores in the United States.

These pains can last a LONG time. In my case over several months.

Crystaline Vitamin C supplements will help, but there is really no cure for viral minfections. The pain from the infections are generally self-limiting.

Every once in a rare while these reult in a lung collapse, called a pneumothorax.  This is very unlikely, but possible. Thus, is one day the pain becomes unduly severe or you experience severe air hunger you have a 911 call.

Hi edenchic.

It could be an inflammation of the pleura, one of the two membranes around the lungs, which also wraps around the entire chest cavity and ribs.
Just look up pleurisy or pleuritis.
Usually it's from a viral infection and if that's what the case is indeed, drugs won't do a thing for it, because the virus has already replicated.

I have used DMSO 30% solution, in thin applications over the freshly washed  affected areas, a few times daily, for pain management.
Note: DMSO is not FDA approved-available from veterinary supply stores or online sources. People who grew up in farming areas know about it.

The base of the lungs does not produce very audible air movement sounds, but the total absence should be further evaluated.
It might be related to the suspected pleurisy which, consciously or unconsciously because of the immense pain, interferes with normal breathing.

Hope you feel better soon

Best wishes.
Niko
