painful - swollen ankle

I switched from Toprol xl to Metropolol tart about 2-3 months ago and since then one of my ankles, has swollen up and it is very painful to walk on.  Even after being off of it, overnight, there is no relief.  The swelling has been constant for the whole 2 months.  Has anybody else had this kind of side effect?  I am going to try going back to the name brand Toprol xl, to see if this helps, before I have a MRI done of my ankle. Already went to a orthopedic and he said I didn't have arthritis or and broken bones visual on the x-ray, and I didn't have any physical trauma to the ankle.   Any help would be appreciated.

Toprol xl is used to treat angina and blood pressure.

Metropolol tart is a Beta Blocker this is used for blood pressure.  You are aware that you should reduce the dosage slowly to wean yourself off this medication?

You should only use these medication when prescribed by your doctor and under medical attention and regular monitoring.  Whilst taking any type of hypertension medication, you should have a blood test taken once a year to check for kidney and liver function.

Although feet problems can be from mechanical reasons.  Swelling of the legs and feet, can be from kidney and heart conditions.

You should see your doctor to find out whether you may have an allergic reaction to the medication that you have been taking or whether the medication is not right for you and also to check your heart and take a blood test to check your kidney and liver function.

At home elevate the swollen leg and rest it and apply a cold compress.  Elevating the leg will help to drain away any fluid retention.  The cold compress will help to reduce any inflammation.

Hope you get on OK

Best wishes

Maybe a podiatrist would be able to help better.  I was having severe pain in my heal (I knew it was a spur) but what I didn't know is that I have Achilles's tendonitis and the mri showed I have a tear in my Achilles tendon.  I have to wear a huge boot, but believe it or not, when I wear it, the pain disappears.  I don't have any of the swelling, but the podiatrist was able to help when no one else would.
