small bean sized lump in neck , bad hoarse cough , hurts to look up and down

Hi , i've recently had a really hoarse bad cough and its slowly got a bit better after taking cough medecine.
when i look up or down with my neck it hurts and the small bean sized lump in my neck becomes more obvious , it's not easy to notice without touching it and it hurts a bit to touch.

http://medicine.ucsd.edu/clinicalmed/head-lymphnodes2.JPG - in this picture , it is in the same place as Submandibular , so maybe the node is swollen from my cough but i'm not sure , is it common to get a lump in your neck from a bad cough/cold but i'm worried it could be cancer so please get back to me ,thanks.

Thankyou for your reply but i've been to the doctors and it was simply glandular but the gland was very tender and swolen , he's just prescribed me some ibuprofen which i was hoping they could do more since it hurts.

Thanks

Usually when they are pretty big and that painful and you have been sick, the dr should prescribe antibiotics because they can get infected. Try hot compresses.

Yes, your lymph nodes are filters and this is what they do when you get sick. Is your lump on your neck or on the jaw line?
