confusion, low blood pressure

my uncle is 83 yrs old and about a month ago and i took him to the doctor. he has been retaing water.  his feet was th size of his calf and could not put his shoes  on. so the dr. put him on lasix and potassuim.  so he decided to  be stubborn and has lowed down his intake and drinking fluid. where before he was drinking about a liter  a day easliy.   so now his swelling has went down plus his blood pressure has drop and tempature.  he acts like he is drunk with slured speach and talks slowly.  also he has trouble walking .   we took him to the dr. and he did blood work and changed his water pill. doc called back and said his thyroid was off, liver enzynes were elevated and some type of infection. so he added syntoid and anatibotic.  i am trying to make him drink and eat more but he is fussing about it and is not getting any better.  what could be going on?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
If your uncle is 83 years old and retaining water, then in all probability since his liver enzymes are raised he is having hepatic encephalopathy. He could also be having abnormal kidney function and both liver and kidney could be affecting his brain. It will be good if he could be admitted and his medication given by IV route and his condition stabilized before he is discharged.
Hope this helps. Do discuss this with his doctor. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
