sounds in brain

My mother is around 75 years old. She is a patient of hyper tension and joint pains. Her hearing is also faulty. We have to speak loud so that she can hear. Since recently she is listening sounds in her mind. I have shown to ENT doctor who told that there may not be any organ problem of the ear. I have shown her to psychiatrist who is giving her medicine which she has taken for almost 20 days. but so far there is no signs of cure. She is worried a lot and getting irritated. I want to show her to any other ENT specialist. Recently she used one hearing aid, she says that that hearing aid was not good as she could not listen properly on using it. Is the sounds are cause of the use of wrong hearing aid. What is the actual cause of these sounds and in which method of treatment its curable. Is there any natural cure for this kind of problem which will be effective. What is the medical name of this problem. The sounds are like any vehicle is passing nearby.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
What your mother has is tinnitus or abnormal sound in ear. There are many medical causes for tinnitus. Besides loud noises, other causes include severe head trauma, sinus and respiratory infections, ear infections, wax build-up, high blood cholesterol, food allergies, certain types of tumors and a long list of other conditions.
Other possible causes of tinnitus have their origin in either your ear (Ménière's disease, otosclerosis, middle ear infections,   wax in your ear canal and TMJ), or auditory nerve (which carries signals from your inner ear to your brain like acoustic neuroma), and side-effects of medicines (aspirin, quinine, some antibiotics etc). Tinnitus can also be stress related.
Sometimes it can be a pulsatile tinnitus where you hear your own pulse. The most common cause of pulsatile tinnitus is noisy blood flow as blood pushes through plaques or kinks in the arteries in the head or neck. It can be made worse if there is also hypertension. Several types of fistulas in the blood vessels of head and neck, especially the carotid artery or jugular vein can also cause this.
Increased blood flow as seen in anemia and hyperthyroid state can also cause pulsatile tinnitus. Fluid in middle ear can be another cause. Vascular tumors of middle ear such as glomus tumors or paragangliomas can also cause this.
Please consult another ENT specialist and a vascular specialist for this. Your mother may need angiograms, dopplar studies of vessels of head and neck and may be CT scans of ear.
In all probability it is due to hypertension, so first check whether her BP is right and whether it is the side effect of any medication she is on. Take care!

She remembers earlier days incidents like during young age she was staying in a village with my father when he was posted there and she used to have a white cat in house as pet. she some times narrates earlier incidents. But now she is getting a lot irritated. When my grand son who is an active 18 months old boy moves here and there and touches things in the house she gets irritated and cautions others regularly. When she keeps things here and there and when asked she tries to remember where they are kept and she recollects it. She is given The doctor -psychiatrist suggested her Serenace 0.25 one tab night and Maxgallin M 75 one tab night. She is taking this medicine for the last 20 days. There was a break of 2 days in between as she forgot to take medicines. As far I remember her hearing gone down during few months. For the last 4 to 5 years she is not listening with difficulty. I have to repeat my words loudly 2 to 3 times. Please suggest some solution either natural treatment or medical treatment. you can guide me to any good doctors forum also where I can get proper suggestion.

I am not a dr. and only guessing, but it sounds like tinnitus. I would never be giving someone her age psych drugs if she is only hearing a roaring sound in her ear. I would take her to another ENT. Lots of people live with tinitus. The other thing I am thinking of, is I have heard that sometimes people get a sound and it can be rlated to either heart or a blood vessel. So perhaps a cardioloigst would be good.

How is her memory been lately? The same or disintegrative? Sounds like dementia onset to me. Someone doesn't go pyscho at the age of 75 IMO.  What drug did he give her?  And has her hearing gone down steadily or rapidly?  Is she worse off at night than day?

Also have the following checked:
Diabetes- can cause hearing loss
Thyroid Levels
Steroid Levels
