strange smell?

For the past two weeks, I will randomly smell a "perm." This quickly is the best smell I can say it reminds me of. The scent comes and goes. But no, I am no where around anything or anyplace that should smell like a perm. What can it be? It is quite strong. Please help!

Would you say that you have the same thing as these people?  They have comments on other MedHelp forum postsites--

I, too, have suffered with this.  Never heard it described as "perm" odor before though..... (smile)

I googled this because the same exact thing is happening to me?? Did you ever figure it out? It follows me everywhere but i smell my clothes and hair and it's nowhere but then I'll randomly smell it again at different places.

have you ever tried oil of oregano? Or tried wafting inhaling peppermint oil. Look into the benefits.
That's interesting.  I had someone ask me if I work in a salon. I didn't understand why until I started noticing the smell also it's similiar to a perm or the smell of  magic shaving cream. It's horrible and it's coming out of me ( flatulence). Maybe this is what you are dealing with also!?

Sometimes a sinus infection, gum infection, throat infection or ear infection can have an odor that you can detect transiently when you pass the person or you are the person.  Vaginal odors can also sometimes be detected.

Please be aware that some people detect odors better than others.  The perm smell is usually related to sulfur or ammonia products. You might also be detecting sewer gas leak if you have a cracked drain pipe some where.

It might also be perm chemicals wafting through the air.

Try to narrow it down.

2adeles,  the term for what you're experiencing is "olfactory hallucinations".  That might help you with your google search.

This is not a symptom to take lightly.

best wishes.
