I have suffered from swelling (water retention) in my feet and legs since I was about 18 years old. I have complained to my dotors mamy times over the years. None of them can give me an explaination. They do not consider water retention a medical problem. I actually had a doctor tell me that. He suggested I sleep in very tight support hose. NO, I'm not kidding. One doctor prescribed a diuretic, which didn't work worth a flip. I tried salt free diets and that didn't really matter either.
My swelling happened out of the blue and was sometimes so bad that I couldn't get my shoes on. I might would have the swelling everyday for a month and then not get it at all for 4 months. About a year ago, I started having severe cramping in my feet and legs. Nobody knows why. The cramping suddenly stopped and my leg muscles became sore, painful and weak. No more cramping and no more swelling either. Very strange. My doctors are trying to figure out the cause of the painful and weak leg muscles, but don't think the swelling or cramping are related. I don't know, I'm not a doctor, but it seems to me there is some kind of a connection. I'm waiting for blood test and x-rays now. Nerve conduction test are normal.
are ypu eating alot of salt lately and soda are culprits to retain water. You could try a diuretic or eat asparagus that promotes getting rid of water naturally. Drink lots of water to cleanse body. If not clearing see your doctor. hormones can cause boating swelling as well. good luck.
