swelling of the foot/lower portion on left side

the lower section on my left side (the foot and leg) swells up during the day, also has a reddish coloring on top of foot along with the same color going up the leg. There is no pain unless I press hard with my finger, then there is a lot of dis-comfort. When I sleep, the next morning the swelling has subsided but not entirely. My doctor is concerned about possible blood clots and if you think he is correct then I will go to a hospital.

Hello.  I'm an expert.  Usually, blood clots in the deep veins of your leg cause much pain.  However, they CAN exist without pain.  It you do have a blood clot, it is a medical emergency that requires immediate attention.  The doppler test will also tell you if your leg veins just aren't able to push the foot/leg blood back up to the heart anymore.  Sometimes this situation accounts for redness and swelling.  Or it could be an infection, etc.  Please consider having the test done.  Good luck to you.
