swirls of green in my field of vision

Has anyone ever had their eyes closed and seen the color green swirling slowly?  I can sometimes see it with my eyes open too especially if I'm in a dark room or in front of a light colored wall.  What is that?  It doesn't happen all the time.  It's like a green jungle background... kinda like light through leaves.

Very interesting. Years ago, a blond (why is it always a blond?) convinced me to try her special healing tea, which contained foxglove, which is the source of digitalis. And I saw swirls of green when I closed my eyes. Have you heard about the blond who called up American Airlines and asked: "How long does it take to fly from New York to California?" The operater answered: "Just a minute."

The blond said "Thank you," and hung up.

I would have to say I think it's pretty normal to see colors when yuo close your eyes and if you stare at certain things especially light for a min or two. It happens to everyone. The same type of effect after the flash of a camera.

Hello.  I haven't been on medhelp in months.  Thank you for your comments.  I just had a basic eye exam.  I had forgotten about that period where I was experiencing the swirls of green.  Still, the Dr. did not mention seeing anything abnormal.

I have seen green halos before due to digoxin toxicity....You don't happen to be on that drug are you? I remember it was awful....Regardless, if you keep seeing green, please see someone about it. Sunny

Hello,

The cones in your eyes, those cells responsible for color perception are programmed for red, green, and blue electromagnetic waves. Staring at a strong color for a long period of time and then closing your eyes causes the opposite color to linger on your eyes. (red-green, blue-yellow, green red, yellow-blue). It's known as the opponent process. This is absolutely normal.

This green color swirls if associated with floaters needs evaluation by an Opthalmologist. It can be due to shrinkage of the jelly(vitreous) that fills the back two-thirds of the eye which can cause vitreous detachment. A thorough evaluation by your family optometrist including a dilated examination is suggested.

Hope it helps. Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.
