toenail disorder

My big toenails are peeling from the end and then there is a darker horizontal discoloring back just a bit, then the rest of the nail looks normal.  Can it be corrected with a vitamin regiment?

Hi again, just wanted to tell you that I have an excellent bookmark re nail abnormalities and color etc. that really points to more serious systemic disease and underlying conditions such as heart, liver, etc. If you are interested I can give it to you...nails are an excellent way for dr to tell if there are problems internally that signal further investigation.

Nothing to take lightly...

I have just been dealing with this same discussion in the last couple days, regarding toenail ridges and horizontal lines on toenails. I have found out about psoriatic nails, found in people with psoriasis, and ridges and peeling in your finger or toenails has to do with iron. High iron manifests in skin problems, and psoriasis is common in iron disorders.

Google it with typing in peeling toenails or fingernails. Here is a link. Metabolic listed as one cause, vitamin deficiency, but rule out iron overload before taking any supplements as the iron in multi-vitamins if you have an iron loading issue, will make the problem worse.

Iron overload is way more common than anyone knows, even the medical community.
