upper left quadrant abdominal pain

My dad has upper left abdominal pain that came on a few days ago. It is a dull ache if he is still, but becomes sharp if he touches the area or moves.  He has a high pain tolerance and says this really hurts.  He has been seen by a nurse practitioner who ordered an MRI.  The radiologist did not see abnormalities in spleen or pancreas.  My father's gall bladder has been removed.  there is no fever or bloody stool.  He is very regular and takes Milk of Magnesia daily to remain that way.  The radiologist said there was stool blockage evident on the MRI and the nurse Pract. prescribed a stool softener.  The GP returned today, but did not feel he needed to see my dad.  My dad is 88 with a good quality of life.  The Dr. said he would review the scan and call, but has not done so.  He is not a geriatric specialist and my parents feel that he does not provide aggressive treatment because of their age. My dad feels he has been misdiagnosed. Do we seek a second opinion, wait it out?  What is your suggestion?

I would agree with sara_eagle.

He needs to obtain a second opinion from a Gastroenterologist now and he probably should have a Geriatric specialist  overseeing his general health issues.

It wouldn't hurt to seek the opinion of a gastroenterologist.
