wont go away

i have never had any skin problems in the past and i am 21 years old, about a year or two ago i got this strange thing on my arm, everyones opinion was ringworm. but it has never been contagious and it will not go away with anything and hasnt spred to anywhere. just stayed where it has been (my upper right arm) i have tried all kinds of creams and ointments and i have tried just putting lotion on it. its red and flakey has bumps and "oozes" clear stuff. it itches like crazy sometimes but i TRY to not scratch. it seems like the skin is cracked in the affected area which makes it sting when i put anything on it. i have no doctor and with no insurance im to worried about finances.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Itchy localized rash can be due to allergic dermatitis, eczema, contact dermatitis, shingles, psoriasis, fungal infection like or Tinea corporis. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage without examining the rash. Since the commonest cause is fungal infection try this treatment: Many treatment options are there like Clotrimazole 1%, Miconazole nitrate 2%, Tolnaftate 1% and Butenafine hydrochloride 1%. Many OTC products containing these salts are available, your pharmacist can help. Try a combination of two and apply until the round marks you see disappear. Continue application for 2 weeks after the marks disappear. The cause for persistence is that the treatment is often left in between. After the itch and dryness goes, you have to continue applying for at least another 2 weeks for the infection to be completely cured from the lower most layer of the skin. If this fails you will need to consult a skin specialist. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
