Intense sensations (Not Burning) when urinating

I've been putting up with this for years but because it rarely happened I thought it was nothing but now... it's definitely something.  The problem is.. every morning I get woken up around 5:00 a.m. and there is no way to go back to sleep.  I have an intense urge to pee and when I try.. it is almost excruciating - however I can't really say it's painful.  Just horribly intense.  The sensation continues while peeing and doesn't really go away.  Each time I pee for the next couple of hours... it's the same thing.  Has anyone else ever had this and if so.. what did you do?

OMG   This used to happen after i took a bath for years when i was younger.  Don't know what helped it. i just remember it happening.  Change your soap would be my guess.  or stick with showers.  hope this helps just knowing you aren't alone with this issue.

Thanks for responding.  Actually, after reading a lot of messages here I decided to try first things first -- I had my urine checked and lo and behold.. I had a simple bladder infection.  How silly I was to put up with it for so long.  For the first time in as long as I can remember - it's doesn't "tingle" and as an added bonus.. I'm sleeping through the entire night because I don't have to get up to pee!
