Test Results

Hello,

I just received some test results back and was wondering if you could elaborate on what they mean exactly. I am 19 year old female and I urinate approximately every hour and a half to two hours. I had a 24 hour urine collection done and these are the results:

URINE COLLECTION:
Volume 24h: 2000
Creatinine 24h U: 14.3

BLOODWORK:
Renin: 0.25

I was wondering if you could tell me what is considered "normal range" for all 3 test results and if you could elaborate on what you think might be going on and what should be done. I am seeing a nephrologist this wednesday and have a renal scan this thursday. Is this a sign that my kidney's are malfunctioning?

thank you in advance,

steph

Thank you so much for responding. You mentioned about no previous pelvic surgeries.. would it make a difference that i have had 3 pelvic surgeries in the last 2 years?

thank you in advance,

Hi,
I am not familiar with the chemistry part (Renin and Creatinine you can check with an internal medicine MD), but it sounds like your voided volume is on the low normal side for a 24 hour period, suggesting normal kidney function in terms of urine production. It also suggests that your fluid intake is probably adequate. Assuming that you have a normal gyn exam, and no prior pelvic surgeries, I am guessing that you are urinating about 12 times daily, and 2-3 at night, and this is considered slightly high. Get checked for a bladder infection, and if this is negative, consider a timed voiding regimen, where you sit on the toiled every 1.5 waking hours for 2 weeks, then every 1.75 hrs for 2 weeks, then every 2 hrs, onward until you get up to about every 3 hrs. This is called timed voiding, and can work for up to 50% of those who can keep up the regimen. Be careful not to urinate in between, even if you feel the urge. The goal is to retrain your bladder to hold more urine.
