uterine prolapse with cystocele & rectocele

I saw the surgeon in Washington DC he is at the Washington Hosp Ctr and does work with 2 women Urogynecologists. He said I have uterine prolapse with cystocele and rectocele. I have tried a pessary and physiotherapy but I am still uncomfortable and want the surgery now. My biggest concern is will I be able to resume my active lifestyle and lift my infant son once repaired? I keep reading that after surgery you should never do heavy lifting again. How long of a recovery am I in for? If I changed my mind about having another pregnancy in the future would it still be possible? Any insight is helpful. Also any questions I should ask my surgeon before hand?

Dr. Sokol is part of their group and is fellowship trained.  I appreciate you mentioning the mesh issue.  I am scared about any mesh repairs because I've read so many bad stories of erosion and reactions etc. Don't they have to use mesh to do a sling for the stress incontinence? I'm confused and don't know which procedure I should be getting. What else can they use to repair the prolapses and incontinence?
Thanks

Please be sure that you get evaluated and treated by a fellowship trained urogynecologist. Ask about their training before you go to see them. Dr Cheryl Iglesias and Dr. Briana Walton are both fellowship trained, and practice in the Washingdon DC area. Do your best to avoid vaginally placed grafts if at all possible.

Hi there!

I wanted to give you my email.  I would like to keep you updated with my progression and would like to know how you are doing also.  It is so hard to find someone who will admitt/talk to you about the condition.  My normal OB was not much help.  And basically told me there were not any options.  He really wouldn't talk with me about pressary, even though the idea is not really the answer I want.  The answer I want is to be healed, for it to be fixed and for me to continue on my way of life.  I want to make the decision myself about more children, not have my bladder make it for me.  Nor do I want to have poor quality of life (and work) due to this condition either.  There has to be a way!?!?  My appt. at U of M  is Jan 31st.  I will let you know what I am told, and options I have.  I will be asking similar questions about further pregnancys and etc.  I feel for you, I really do.  I am depressed enough about this, I can't imagine having it happen with my first.  I'm so sorry this happened to you.  I am fortuante to have a 2 year old daughter and then my 8 week old son.  Hang in there, I have read of people having sucessful pregnancys after surgery, but C-sections were preformed.  But there is always a chance of it falling again, since pregnancy puts pressure on it too.  Keep up the kegals, as they will help you with healing from surgery.
Take care and please contact me - I think it would be nice to support eachother through this.  My email is cmatthews - at - modempool - dot - com  Hope that comes through to you.
