11-year-old boy pain urinating, in genitals
My 11-year-old son has been suffering from pain in his genitals, lower abdomen and upper thighs, and during urination, since January 2009. He's had blood tests, ultrasounds, X-rays. We've had him checked by his pediatrician, a pediatric urologist, a pediatric gastroenterologist and pain specialists. They have not been able to find a source of his pain. They've suggested he see a psychotherapist. He's seen a psychiatrist who says he doubts it's in his head and wants us to see a neurologist, so that's our next step.
I saw a posting on this site from 1/22/08 (marnie_skip) about an 11-year old boy with what seems to be the very same symptoms. Do you have any ideas what this could be?

I'm sorry but don't have any answers.
An 11 y/o will not make things up like that and it was a waste of time to hve him evaluated by a psychiatrist. A psychotherapist will be a waste of time as well.
As soon as there is something that doctors can't explain they claim that it caused by a patient's mind.
Please take your son to a urologist and don't give in to pressure from doctors stating that things are OK. You know your son and would be able to tell that something is wrong.
One of the things that a urologist might want to do is a cystoscopy. The urologist might use this to look at the penile urethra and all the way in to the bladder. This will be an uncomfortable test for your son, but it could help to diagnose.
I sincerely hope that they will be able to help your son.

I just thought of another procedure called a urodynamics study.
During this test they can see how the urinary system functions. Small catheter are placed in the urethra to see how things function. They can determine if there are problems in the proces of unrination. pictures can be taken during this procedure as well that could shed some light regarding the problems.
An 11 y/o should not be suffering with this problem.
