I went to the doctor for this. He said it could be a urinary tract infection but there wasn't any redness around the tip. So he told me to drink a lot of cranberry juice to soothe the pain. But only after you urinate.

Hi,
Was a urinalysis done?
Was a urine and prostate secretion culture done to help guide treatment?
Any swelling in the scrotum? Was your varicocele successfully treated before?
Without a history of topical medicine application and with no significant history of allergies, a urinary tract infection may be a primary differential here. The burning pain on the tip of the penis may still be due to a superficial skin irritation as the skin of the glans is thin and fragile. It may also be due to an underlying lower urinary tract infection such as a urethritis.
Take the medications and observe your symptoms. You may come back for a follow up to have your urine assessed and a complete physical examination done. This should resolve in time with medications.
Hi ,
Thanks for this analysis.I wud like to clarify a few points raised:-
1) I don't apply any lotion/cream on the penis.
2) No manipulation of penis.
I have a history of varicoceles.Cud that be the reason of penile pain.
I have consulted a urologist and he suggested some type of Prostatitis or infection in urinary tract. He has suggested some medicines for 6-weeks.I also feel pain in abdomen and in regions near penis. Not sure what it is.But burning and pain in penis occurs any time in the day.Any suggestions?
Hi,
This burning sensation over the tip of the penis may be due to an irritation of the penile skin. In the absence of a significant sexual history ,this may be due to a dermatitis or a fungal infection.
Is there any history of applying lotion and creams over the area?
Is there any history of frequent manipulation of the penis?
Contact or allergic dermatitis may occur and may cause some of these symptoms. Another differential will be a lower urinary tract infection. I suggest that you seek consult with a urologist for an initial assessment. A baseline urinalysis will be able to help rule out any underlying infection.
