Diabetes after Lithrotripsy for kidney stone removal?

I'm getting ready for my procedure to remove a 6mm stone 5/7/13.  I've read this procedure can induce Diabetes in approx. 17% of those who have the Lithrotripsy done.  Is this true?  They say the laser does this by damaging the cells in the pancreas responsible for producing insulin.

Hi there!

There is no correlation between lithotripsy and diabetes. Also lithotripsy does not use lasers. These are actually sound waves that are used to break the stone.
Hope the information is helpful.

Take care!
