Epididymitis

I had Epididymitis a few months back, took Dyoxicycline and it cleared me up in the 10 days I was prescribed.  The last few days, I've been getting that same very mild sensitivity on the same testicle (right) and heaviness that I had when I got the infection a few months back.  The only difference is the pain isn't but maybe half as bad, which is pretty mild since I never got totally disabling pain then.  But, the symptoms are nearly identicle.

Is this something I'm just going to have to go back to the doctor for, or is it alright to take a wait and see approach?  Ibuprophen seems to be able to relieve that heavy feeling and the pain to where I'm basically normal.  But when that wears off, the symptoms come back.  The first time, Iburpophen did nothing to help.

When you are dealing with an infection like that things can get out of hand very fast.
I had been hospitalized for this many times and usualy remained in hospital from 3 days to a week.

I have been on Cipro as well as other antibiotics through an IV.

In 1999 I had a vasectomy in the hope that the infections would stop. After a complication of the vasectomy, I lost my left testicle. After that healed I have not had epididymitis or orchitis in the remaining right testicle.

My problems started after I had surgery of the bladder and prostate in 1994. I don't know if that had any thing to do with it. It seems that these infections as well as prostatitis have causes that are poorly understood.

Good Luck.

I am having almost the same problem. Did you have any other symptoms or just the pain and inflammation like me?

I started having pain in my testicle 7 weeks ago. (sporadic sharp and dull pain, no other symptoms) I went to my GP and was diagnosed with a mild case of epididymitis and prescribed 500mg of cipro twice daily for seven days and 500 mg ibuprofin 2 times a day for 10 days. The pain subsided for two weeks and then returned.

Went back to my GP and he prescribed me with 500mg cipro twice daily for 10 days.  After a week without improvement I went to a Urologist. He confirmed epididymitis and instructed me to stop taking the cipro. He prescribed me 375mg Naproxen twice daily for 2 weeks and a scrotal ultrasound.

I saw another Urologist for a second opinion. He also confirmed epididymitis with inflamation of the veins, prescribed 100mg doxycycline once a day for 10 days and ibuprofin. After few days the epididymitis became bilateral.
I went back to the doctor and was prescribed diflucan.

Doctors seem unconcerned yet unable to tell me what the cause or cure is.
