Extra Kidney ureter

I had a robotic, total hysterectomy last month and it was discovered that I had an extra ureter on my right kidney. My surgeon would like me to have a CT scan on my kidney function. I am 46 years old and have never even had a UTI. Is this really necessary? I assume I was born with it as it seems impossible that I would have just grown an extra one.
