I need advice about my 12 year old son who sufferes from kidneys stones.

This all started 2 years ago. He had a stone moving that became embedded in his ureter. Now he has a 4-6mm stone in his lower right pole. He has been having the same pain off and on since June 2016 but his doctor insists that the stone is not causing the pain because it's still in the kidney. 2 days ago the pain moved into his groin but a scan showed the stone is in the exact same place. Sometimes he has to push to urinate. Fever, sweats, and nausea are other symptoms he has to deal with along with the pain. There is no hydrophrenosis and he's never had a problem with it, not even when the stone became embedded. We also know that he is not passing stone fragments as they suggested either. I just need to know if it's possible that a stone in the kidney could be causing pain.
