Kidneys or other infection?

Hi,

I'm a 25 yr old female, active and have always been healthy.

For the past 3 months or so I have had severe pitting edema in my feet, ankles, and calves. Just recently, the swelling has spread to my stomach and genitals, too.

The doctors are thinking it's a kidney problem since my albumin is low, however I think I may have some kind of infection considering my liver enzymes are high, my absolute eosinophils are at 1163....15.3%, and in my urine test my leukocyte esterase is 2+, WBC are 10-20, and there are a few bacteria.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you

Hello,
It looks like kidney infection but other causes of pedal edema also need to be ruled out. Other serious causes for pedal and ankle edema are congestive heart failure, kidney disease, arthritis, high altitude and pregnancy. Are you taking some medicines like laxatives? Abusing these drugs can also cause bilateral pedal edema.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Is high 25 leukocyte esterase (in a urine test) possible after tetanus vacination? The urine test was done one week after the vacination.
