Intersititial Cystisis (IC)

After suffer for nearly 3 years with what I thought was ovarian cyst. I had exploritory sugery 2 weeks ago for endometerosis. They found nothing. So Friday I was sent to the urologist and was to that I have (IC) Ineterstitial Cystisis.I have been taking Elmiron and I feel sick to my stomach, have stayed awake up to 23 hrs straight, my stomach feel yucky. Called the doctor and he said no to take med's and that I was going to need sugery. Is this true? Is there something else I can try? I have read about the sugery, and there are not garantees that it will work. I am at the point that I wanna just deal with the daily pain.

Hello

I was wondering what your symptoms were that lead you to believe you had cysts? Ever since being diagnosed 6 months ago with a strep b UTI I have had a painful bladder and now recently lower abdominal pain which I also thought was a cyst. I went to the OB/GYN and she found no lumps but I had ketones and my ph was off in my urine.

Just wondering if could be IC.

Thank you for the input. You are right about the sugery and there isn't a guarantee. Frankly it scares me and I am not ready at this time to move forward. I hope with a second opinion that I can start on another road.

Thanks again.

Thank you for the information. Most of the foods that you have listed I have cut out of my diet due Migraine Headache. They are my triger foods. I have called my regular doctor and asked for a referral to another urologist to get a second opinon. After having sugery 2 weeks ago, I am just not ready to head down that road again. I am willing to try other things, but I thought it was juming the gun a little on his part. He told that the Elmron was the only medication that I could take for CI. That is why I have started to read up on all of this. I was only diagnosed 5 days ago, and just think I should explore other avenues. In the end that is what needs to happen, then I will go with it. I just want to know that I have exhausted all other avenues.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
The general treatment of interstitial cystitis is medications like opioids and tricyclic antidepressants but there are other treatment methods also. These include Bladder hydrodistention, bladder training, medications via bladder instillation like dimethyl sulfoxide (DMS), heparin and Clorpactin and surgery is kept as the last resort.

Avoidance of certain diets like cheese, alcohol, citrus juices, chocolates, coffee, cranberry juice, processed meats, onions, soy products, tea, tofu, tomatoes and yoghurt often help in improving the symptoms.
I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

By surgery he probably means cystoscopy, hydrodilitation of the bladder and instillation of a med called DMSO.

There are no guarantees but this helps most people with IC.

Good luck!
