Pain in left testicle

Hello, I have had pain in or perhaps around my left testicle.  Above each testicle there seems to be veins or something that feel as if they are what connect my testicles to the rest of my body.  Above the one that hurts, it seems one of these "veins" is enlarged, firm and maybe even swollen.  This is where the pain is located.  And, when I feel around and apply a little pressure, it causes more pain that goes into my stomach.  Same sort of pain when youre kicked there and I should add that the pain is not constant but happens very often.  I should also add that I had an inguinal hernia about 20 years ago and had it repaired surgically.  I am now 34 years old.  I've seen my urologist and he says its nothing to worry about.  This pain has been present for a couple months now.  At first, I was convinced it was UTI so I took 2 weeks of Doxycycline.  I had a bad cold and took a round of amoxicllin and I had a surgery and was given another round of amoxicillin.  My urologist gave me a 30 day supply of an aniti-inflamitory which I have taken for 26 days.  I have also been tested for STD's and UTI's and all came back negative.  I know the doctors on this forum always say that they never challenge or try to compete with another doctor's opinion after an office visit but this worries me so I was hoping for another opinion.  Thanks for your time and knowledge.  Bill

Hello,
In cases of hernia, a prominent bulge along with testicular pain is there and in cases of kidney or ureteric stones, pain during micturition may also be there.
So in your case, varicocele is an important possibility. Another important possibility is of epididymitis which is an inflammation of the epididymis and your doctor is correct in suspecting it. Early on, pain due to epididymitis is often just in the area of the epididymis itself.

I suggest you to continue the treatment that your doctor has prescribed. Also provide support to the scrotum by wearing an athletic supporter, apply ice to the scrotum, take warm baths if there are signs of inflammation, while lying down, place a rolled towel under your scrotum or try over-the-counter pain relievers, like acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
If the symptoms are severe then get an ultrasound of the scrotum done to rule out any varicocele or recurrent hernia.
I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Yes.  I also discussed the subject with my Urologist and he explained that my symptoms were not consistent.  Why do you ask?
