catheter insertion into urostomy

I am a homecare CWOCN caring for an obese patient with a urostomy following cystectomy for bladder cancer. His stoma is deeply recessed and located on a pendulous abdominal panus. He was sent home from hospital with foley catheter in stoma which has been there for 3 weeks due to inability to pouch stoma successfully. I am awaiting delivery of deep convex Nu-hope pouches but I need to keep catheter in for the time being. I would like to know if anyone has experience with keeping a catheter in place in a stoma. How long can this safely be done? Any suggestions for anchoring the catheter and containing the urine that leaks around it? Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

I have a severe hernia and have to have a foley in my stoma all the time to bypass the hernia to let my urostomy drain properly.  I use a FR16 Catheter with anywhere between 15 - 20 CC of sterile water to keep the catheter in.  I change it weekly, or if it gets plugged up from mucus sooner, I then change it.  I've had my hernia repaired twice and it just keeps coming back.  Due to the complexity of getting it fixed, I have chosen to just use a foley for the remainder of my life.
