Please help... uti symptoms -negative urine test

Alright- ive been having UTI symptoms. Burning after peeing, urge to pee and I went to the doctors and they did a urine test but it came out negative. They checked me for STD's and then did urine culture and still negative for UTI. They did this again 2 more times and still a negative.  What could it be? I take AZO to help with the symptoms but after Im done taking them symptoms come back. I dont want to be dependant on this med. Anywho my doctor *****-all she has done is test my urine over and over and is not helpful at all. I cant see any other doctor but her because she is my assigned doctor at Kaiser.

The thing is I had these exact same symptoms 5 years ago. They tested me repeadidly for UTI by taking urine samples and it all came back negative but they would give me antibiotics for UTI and it would go away.

Do i have flank pain? Little, it comes and go not all the time.  I do drink TONS of water but this hasnt gone away-its been 2 months. I barely got an appt with my doc this coming tuesday.

Any suggestions on what this could be?

I suspected my 2 year old has a uti mid December due to fever and a bad case of diarrhea the week before.  But the urinalysis in office and culture were negative.  Fast forward to just yesterday when my baby thankfully was discharged from the hospital due to a kidney infection from an untreated uti.  Those tests are not always accurate.  There may not be enough bacteria in the urine to test positive but that does not mean it is not there!!!!

Check online for a physical therapist who treats pelvic floor disorders. Apparently this is a common occurrence for women who have ever been pregnant and moreso in women who have had c-sections. There is significant trauma to the entire pelvic floor area which supports the bladder and uterus during the birthing process. No one should have to live with this frequent urination problem when there is treatment available. Again look online for a physical therapist who treats pelvic floor disorders.

this has been going on for 3 years for me since i gave birth to my baby 2 years ago. so ive been having pelvic pains, chills, fevers, slight blood when i wipe and not from menstruating, burning pee, dark and cloudy urine, acute kidney pains, feeling drained all the time..  took 2 urine cultures and they r negative but high in white blood count, which is a sign of infection. couldnt have an epidural with my baby because they also said the same thing that i have a high white blood count and it would be a higher risk of infection so they denied me... anyways i'm 23 the symptoms get worse even after antibiotics.... whats wrong with me !

Hey, for those of you with the burning in the morning, maybe it is related to your urine being more acidic in the mornings - you could try having a glass of strong lemon barley water before bed and once in the night if you wake up to alkanise it a bit.  Might not make a difference but would be interesting to see, it definitely helps me when I have a UTI.  Hope you find some answers, I know how miserable it feels to have something not quite right!

I had same symptoms, I have now been diagnosed with an overactive bladder which I'm told by my Dr can have the same symptoms as a UTI, hope this helps.

Has anyone been checked for Kidney stones?  I am having the same problems with negative tests.  They did however, find a small amount of blood which lead the Dr. to suspect a stone.  My labs were sent in this morning so I'm waiting to hear back to see what other tests may be needed.  Has anyone had any answers yet on what is going on?  The more information we have the better so we can let our Dr's know.  Sometimes you have to research yourself in case they miss something.  Happens all the time.  I went 2 years seeing 5 doctors before I finally figured out I had gallstones (had it removed 2 weeks ago - yay).  Each time I went in, they dismissed my pain and symptoms.    Be pro-active folks!!

I had three urine cultures. The first was negative....two weeks later one came back positive and the third one a day after the second one was negative. Who do I believe at this point? I have burning in groin and hematuria. Hope the antibiotics work so I know it was a uti and not something else.

I struggle with the same thing, find that whole wheat, caffeine,  and sweeteners are causing mine.... I have found taking a apple cider vinegar bath helps with the discomfort/pain, I also take clove oil and oil of oregano daily , and a probiotic, drinking LOTS of water daily and unsweetened cranberry juice, and of course avoiding the wheat, caffeine, and sweeteners...

Im having the same issues. EVERY morning (for the past month or two) I wake up and I have a burning sensation after I pee and it lasts for about 1-2 hours after I pee ( I have to take acetaminophen) to take away the burning pain. After that I feel fine. I went to my doctor and she gave me a urine test, and it came back negative, she also sent it to a lab and it came back negative. I don't know whats going on, but its making my life miserable, especially if I have to keep taking pain medication to take away the pain. I've been so frusterated I've looked at every possibility including worms in my system, that's how desperate I am to find an answer, even looked into Pancreatitis cancer. Im so tired and exhausted of this run around. Im starting to think it might be bladder cancer, but I'm sure they would have seen the cells in the urine test (hopefully!) but probably not. Its a headache, and I want it over with.

Just started to read this forum.  I have the same problem but I noticed it was lack of potassium since a little sweat seemed to lower my potassium... try to have your potassium level checked.

Hello,
I hope you all can help me here...

I am 24 years old male. I am having this burning sensation after urination from July-2014. It been 8 months. I am all frustrated and depressed. I almost forgot how my feeling was before July-2014.

---Please read this-------
I first felt burning sensation on 20th July-2015, I thought it would go away automatically. I waited 2 days, nothing happened, then I went to a pharmacy and took potassium citrate syrup, I thought my urine was getting concentrated due to hot weather, I continued that not happened, then I went to a doctor (GP), did urine analysis & Ultrasound, nothing they found in urine analysis, but in ultrasound they found that I have bladder infection. Then my GP gave me medicines, I was unrecovered, then after 7 days my GP told me to meet an urologist, Then I showed him my previous report. The urologist told me to repeat urine analysis and uric acid test. But in these two test he found nothing. after seeing my previous ultrasound report he gave me medication for 10 days.
after 10 days I felt the same uncomfortableness but intensity was low. I went to my urologist again then he told me to repeat ultrasound (KUB). But this time he found that I have no infection in my bladder. My previous bladder line (infection) was gone.
So, this time my urologist gave me K-2 syrup. (told me to take 3 times per day-2 spoon everytime)
After 15 days,  No improvement.
This time he told me that I got prostate infection and gave me antibiotics for 45 days.
(Bactrim and Alfusin for 45 days.)
(bactrim: 2 times per day
Alfusin: 1 time per day)

I felt that my symptoms improved, the intensity of burning got decreased but still sensation was there.

So, I changed my urologist, went to the best and famous urologist of my country on 30th december-2014.
I told him what happened with me, everything. Then I asked him that do I have prostate infection?? He told I dont think so.
He asked me at the staring of this infection did I have any fever ???
Did I have any blood in my urine???
I replied I did not have those.
He then told me to perform Uroflow study test. And I did it and from the result he told me that my Urine flow was not good. Then he told me to do ascending Urethrogram test. As he thought I might have some blockage in my urine pipe. also he did urine culture and urine analysis + Ultrasound+ blood test Uric acid. But he found nothing. Even from the Urethro Gram test too.

---------  Then after these all test he told me finally that I have this problem due to my mind. He told me to keep my mind off from it. You will feel better. He also told me I would not give you any tablets or syrup for this.
I was very confident on what he told......
But still the problem is same...It is still happening. Burning sensation is still there somewhere.

Burning sensation: When my bladder is empty I feel nothing, When my bladder is full I feel no burning sensation,,,
but lets say 10 mins after urination, I start to feel this burning sensation and it stays for like 40 mins intensity becomes zero almost. And again after urination it starts to happen. and it has been happening from 8 months. But now I must say, its intensity is very low (Slight) as compare to what it was before at starting.
I feel almost normal....no fever, nothing from this.
But still you know hopeless and totally depressed. I want to be free from this sensation. Its very uncomfortable. Very very much.

I just want to know what it is.....
Bladder infection ???  Cystitis ???  UTI ???
Prostatitis ????
Acute Prostatitis ???
Bacterial Prostatitis ?? Non bacterial Prostatitis ??
Urethra problem?? Kidney problem?? Stone ???? Bladder stone ???  STD ???
or finally what the last urologist told me...Urine burning sensation due to mind ???????

Please help me......................

Chronic Cystitis have low level bacteria that do no always show up on UA or standard cultures.  There are also some organisms that are more difficult to culture to culture out, require special testing etc, also.  The cultures we used today were developed 100 years ago to find and treat acute not chronic infections.  These are also based on colony count which again is for acute not low level chronic infections.

It is possible that you also have Interstitial Cystitis.  The symptoms of chronic cystitis and IC are almost identical.  The difference being that long term antibiotic treatment can control or if not cure the symptoms of a chronic infection but IC is incurable at this point.  Determining which you have requires a urologist that treats chronic uti's and IC>

There are however many coping tools to help with symptoms of IC and researchers are
finding more and more treatments to help.  How ever either way right now you have an irritated bladder and many of the self help things we use to treat IC can help you to feel better in the diagnosis process.  You can pm me for some direct links to help you!

I am an IC support group leader for MO and ARK, our group is called MOARK IC.
Our website has many articles that you may find helpful!

Just this week I have started an IC  and pelvic pain support forum here on Med-help
too.  We are brand new so new info we be added as we grow etc. but I encourage you to join us also.

I hope that each of are able to find help and relief.

Oh my goodness, it's almost relieving to read that I'm not alone!  I have had isues with chronic UTI's over the last several years but most often the lab results come back negative.  I am always put on antibiotics and it seems to clear it up whatever it is.  But a few months later it happens all over again.  I am only 28 and otherwise completely healthy.  It's terribly frustrating and I feel like I just don't get any answers.  I was really beginning to feel like a nut and almost started convincing myself it was in my head!  Please update here if you find any additional information.  I go in next week for another follow up urine catch with my dr. and will get a referral to a urologist.  Here's to hoping for some answers

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
Unidentifiable bacteria means the normal culture set by most labs cannot grow it. This needs special cultures which all labs may not be able to set up. Once the organism is identified then a sensitivity test is set up. This will give the antibiotic that the organism is sensitive to. Consult an urologist if possible regarding this and get the test repeated at a standard lab giving them the background. Organism like Chlamydia and Mycoplasma need special cultures and also are a part of the STD panel (done in your case—were these two covered?). The other possibility is tuberculosis. This can give similar symptoms on and off.
Allergy to food items excreted via urine is another possibility. Rule out diabetes too.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
