Post-Hydrocelectomy

Hi
I'm a 21-year-old guy and I had a hydrocelectomy performed last June. I was surprised that the urologist (located 3 hours away) didn't schedule a follow-up appointment after the operation. I continued to have pain for several weeks after the operation. I was told to expect pain, so I lived with it for a while; but after a few weeks of the pain seeming to get worse, I had to go see my family doctor who immediately prescribed an antibiotic and told me I needed to see the urologist ASAP. When I called the urologist to make an appointment, he said to just go see my family doctor and keep the incision clean. This ticked me off a little, but the pain/infection did go away after about another week and a half, so I was grateful for that. However, I would not go see this urologist again after that experience, and can't help but wonder if he did a botch job of the operation.

Is it is normal to have a large amount of loose skin on the side where the hydrocele was located? Logic tells me that it would be normal for the skin to be stretched, but it seems quite substantial. My right testicle (where the hydrocele was located) also seems to be much larger than the left (I can't say if it was always that much bigger), and I've noticed that it seems to hang much higher and more forward than the other side. This also causes my penis itself to be position more forward and causes a bit of a bulge in my pants (which definitely wasn't the case before the hydrocele/hydrocelectomy). It's all rather unsightly and slightly uncomfortable, and has caused me to become much more self-conscious. However, I am experiencing no pain like I was before and after the operation. Is there anything that can be done about any of this, or is it something I'll just have to learn to live with?

Thanks kindly

I am getting ready to have the surgery and a little afraid. Mine is about the size of a baseball. Very uncomfortable and is always in the way. Especially when I roll over at night when sleeping and it snaps. I am having lots of pain even when I walk from how heavy it is. I had 2 partial nephrectomies and the fluid from the one surgery evidentially leaked down there. I have had this since, but recently it has got bigger and more painful. I guess they are going to do a removal. It is being done at the ic in Roswell Cancer Institute in Buffalo. Wish me luck!

Hi

I just had mine done 2 weeks ago and I am still in pain. Your situation sounds exactly like mine. Exactly. pinching pain I'm still getting at the incision. The right side (where the hydrocele was) is hard and raised a little. There is extra skin like you said. My only problem is this pain and its been 2 weeks. I met with my surgeon and he said all is normal though.
I am happy with how things went but this pain is too much sometimes. Anything you can tell me I'm appreciate it.
