Hi,

Prostatic abscess may be readily noted based on a complete medical history and physical examination. Pain during digital rectal exam and redness and swelling in the area between the anusand the scrotum may signify an increased likelihood of an abscess.

A transrectal ultrasound is a good imaging tool for defining a prostatic abscess.
