RECCURRENT UTI SYMPTOMS...

I frequently experience symptoms of UTI, I would say probably at least once a month (I have experienced over 6 flare-ups of these symptoms in the past four months.) This usually occurs after sexual intercourse, within one or two days. I drink plenty of water and ALWAYS urinate immediately after sex, and typically I shower immediately after as well, just to be safe. However, these symptoms (burning, urgency, irritation, and general discomfort) keep returning. I have been to the doctor a few times for these symptoms, and everytime it is the same diagnosis and treatment. I'm beginning to worry about my health and I was wondering if I should see a urologist about this problem. The tricky part is that I live with my mother who is very traditional and is not aware of my sexual activity, so it's difficult to discuss this with her without her getting on my case about why this keeps happening. But I NEED relief! This is unbearable! Any suggestions?

My URo is very good about treating chronic infections with prophylaxic antibiotic treatment and if you have continually infections the thought is that your not totally
killing off the bacteria so enough remains to reinfect you.

I notice however you say UTI symptoms, so when you go to the doctor does
a UTI show on the dipsticks etc. and have you had some negative cultures
even with the symptoms?

I ask to give you a more specific answer!

Hi,
Im a 20 year old female and im experiencing the same thing! UTI's at least once a month, antibiotic after antibiotic, not to mention the excruciating pain. Although i still havent found a treatment to eliminate the UTI's heres a couple things i suggest. Have your urine "cultured" everytime you go to the doctor, they do it from your urine sample. This way you can keep track of the strain of bacteria that you have, since some antibiotics work better on certain types of bacteria. Also look into "antibiotic prophylaxis treatment" I havent tried this myself yet but i hear its very effective. Try to get referred to a urologist. Intercourse is a known risk factor for UTI's. Hope this helps.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,
Recurrent UTI’s can occur in approximately 20-30% of women. It usually occurs due to each episode caused by a different strain of bacteria. It also occurs more commonly in people with one particular blood type because the cells lining the vagina and urethra may allow bacteria to attach more easily. I’ll suggest you to visit a physician and maybe get an ultrasound of kidneys, urinary bladder done to rule out the possibility of any abnormality in the urinary tract as a cause of recurrent UTI. I’ll also advise you to continue the practice of passing urine after every sexual intercourse and also drinking lots of water.
I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted. Kind regards.
