Small cuts on end of penis (the glans) - Balanitis and How to get rid of it?

Hi,

I'm an uncircumcised male, 29 years old. About 2 weeks ago, I started to have very small cuts appearing on the end of my penis (the glans). They come and go within a day or two, but new ones in new locations will appear. They do hurt a little when I shower and use water to clean my penis. Other than that, no pain when my penis is erect or when I ejaculate; just feel itchy sometimes.

Anyway I did go to a clinic a week ago, had blood and urine tests for HIV/STDs, and all came back negative. The doc told me I had an infection there but did not prescribe me any cream or pills, instead told me I should get a circumcision...

I did some research myself and this appears to be a case of balanitis. So I wanna ask what should I do and whether circumcision is really necessary? I'm just not a big fan of having any operation, unless really necessary...

Thanks a lot!
Caleb
