Still puzzled?

Hi there,

Recently, I felt a slight tingle in my urethra and behind my belly button over the course of a few weeks, nothing to be too concerned over.
However, it become pretty noticeable and I started to urinate extremely frequent with little urine coming out (not much of a noticeable pain when passing) accompanied with lower back pain (right side mainly, like a burning sensation). I went to doctors and suspected a UTI. I was prescribed Nitrofurantoin.

I’ve had same sexual partner for 2 years. So an STD would be extremely unlikely. I’m confident on that.
However, I have had Chlamydia with previous partner, if that’s relevant.

After 2 urine samples, which we’re both “normal” and no trace of blood, it appears I don’t have a UTI after all, no bacteria found.

Since taking the Nitrofurantoin, my back pain comes and goes, jumps in severity, sometimes subtle, sometimes severe, my penis seems a little sore (mainly urethra) and testicle area too. Very mild though. I also get sweats (like a hot flush), shakes, random sharp itches and mild tingling in my hands. Perhaps these are side effects of the medication? I’ve read a few are possible.

As I say, urine samples all appeared normal. All blood tests also show no concern to any bodily functions.
So the doctors seem a little confused.
They’re putting me on Co-amoxiclav, to see if that helps.
I’m hoping coming off Nitrofurantoin lifts some of these other bizarre symptoms I acquired.

So basically, does anyone had any idea what could be going on? I’d appreciate it!

This is a tough question. Just very hard to say what could be going on here. I'd say listen to your Dr., try taking the 2nd prescription med for at least a week & see if that helps. This problem requires expert medical opinion, so unless someone has had the exact symptoms & could point out what it was, you may not find a good answer here. For now, trust your Dr's opinion, if that doesn't help, see a specialist (probably a Urologist)...
