Swollen Urethra

On December 25th I began vomiting ,had diarrhea and had pains in my right lower back and front of my abdomen , i went to the doctor and he suspected appendicitis.I was admitted to hospital that night , the doctors there were suspecting either appendicitis or a ruptured cyst on my ovary.I was given a CT scan and it showed nothing in my bowels , kidneys or appendix. Instead it showed swelling in my right urethra.I got a blood test and my white blood cells came back as 30 , instead of the normal which the doctors told me is 4-11. I was sent home today as i was fed up sitting in the hospital and i still do not have a diagnosis. One thing i did notice in my urine on the first night there was a solid object , i was thinking kidney stone as after that i felt abit better, but it didnt hurt as i was urinating. Could this also be the cause of the swelling , any ideas?Im generally a healthy teenager. Depsite having Henoch Schonlein Purpura a few years ago , i have had nothing else any bit serious.

PS ................. Go to the hospital and get the films and report from the CT you had done. You may need these in the future and they do destroy them after a certain amountof time. Also, have another doctor veiw them to see if maybe there are some small stones the doctor missed. You will need a urologist or nephrologist!!! Best ......................... Cara

Yes, probably a kidney stone. Did you have any symptoms befor this? The ureter was most probably "scratched" causing inflamation of the ureter. You really need to get to a Nephroligist and have some tests done so this does not happen again.
They can do 24 hour urines and what not to see if and why you are making stones. If in fact you are they may have a medication to help you!! Best, Cara

Hi,
The swelling in the right ureter could possibly be due to a stone and maybe you have passed just one of them and there may be others lying within the kidney. I’ll suggest consulting a urologist and getting a CT – IVU (Intravenous urography) done in which a dye is injected into the veins and its excretion is scanned with a CT and if there’s any obstruction in the ureter, it can easily be picked up. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
