TURP
6 months ago I had a TURP. Several days ago I was unable to urinate. I went to an emergency room, and the doctors (incluing urologist) could not break through my uretha. They had to put my completely under anesthesia and operate. I now have a catheter. TheER doctor said my uretha is blocked with scar tissue as hard as concrete and is suggesting he perform a "bladder neck contracture". The doctor who performed the TURP is suggesting dilation. I understand dilation does not last long, and my bladder is so weak from two ER break-throughs, so I feel I should have a more permanent procedure. I cannot find any information on the Internet about "bladder neck contracture". Does anyone know about this. I would appreciate any comments. Thank you.

Thanks for writing in. Prostrate is located at the neck of bladder. Usually after radical prostatectomy there is a chance of development of bladder neck contracture, which means involuntary spasm of the muscle around the neck of the bladder due to which there is obstruction of the urinary tract. Treatment includes some form of urinary diversion or chronic catheter drainage. UroLume stent placement followed by artificial urinary sphincter can be a successful method for treating recurrent severe bladder neck contracture and incontinence.
