Testicle Swelling and Constant Testicle Movement

About 6-7 weeks ago I began to experience problems with my testicles/prostate. During the time period, my symptoms evolved a little. Here is what I have experienced:

1. 6-7 weeks ago I started to have a greater urgency to urinate. My testicles and groin were feeling completely awful and I felt miserable and sick. The urination problem lasted about 1 week then stopped.

2. I saw my doctor 3 days after the problem began occuring. He didn't have any answers, but suggested some form of mild torsion. He booked an appointment with a specialist.

3. I had to wait 3 weeks to see the specialist. During that 3 weeks, my right testicle became swollen and very painful. I was feeling a constant 24 hour a day burning sensation in my groin like it was on fire. For a week or two I was having trouble walking because my testicle was so swollen. When sitting, I had to constantly spread my legs to ease the pain. I called my doctor to ask if there was anything I could do while waiting for the urologist. He suggested I take  urine and seminal fluid tests. Both came back negative.

4. The urologist did a quick check by feeling my prostate. He immediately seemed quite confident that I had prostatitis and epiditimitis. He put me on the antibiotic cipro for 1 week. He mentioned that the infection would probably go away in a week, but gave me no information on what to do if it didn't He also booked me to come back in 2 weeks.

5. My symptoms seemed to get slightly better in the 1 week on cipro, but I am not sure if that is from the drug or less physical movement on my part. However, after 1 week the symptoms were still there. I called the urologist to ask if I should continue on cipro for another week. He said that I shouldn't take any more antibiotics. I met with the urologist on the second week and was hoping he would have more answers. He simply said sometimes prostatitis could last for months or years and that I would just have to let my body deal with on its own.  I asked him if I should get further tests, such as an ultrasound He said that it was not required, because prostatitis is difficult to detect in this way. He said I didn't need to meet with him again and sent me away after only giving me about 15 minutes of his time altogether.

6. Since I met with the urologist, the pain and burning sensations have continued. For the last 2 weeks I have also had another mysterious symptom. My testicles have been moving up and down non-stop 24 hours a day. I did some research on this and understand that testicles move around naturally to control temperature, but I have never had this go on non-stop for 2 weeks. I tried to find an answer for this on the internet, but I couldn't find anything useful.

I am not sure what I have. I honestly don't have complete confidence in the urologist or my family doctor. It seems that a diagnosis of "prostatitis" can sometimes become a catch-all for specialists when they can't properly diagnose an issue like this. I asked my doctor to book another specialist for me, and the only booking I could get was 3 months away. I am at a loss as to what to do now. I am tempted to go into an emergency department to get more immediate help, or I can just wait for 3 months to see the specialist.

My questions for this forum are:

1. Does it seem like I have prostatitis and epiditimitis? I don't have some of the symptoms that I read for this disease.

2. What is the normal duration for antibiotics when a person has prostatitis? I was only allowed to take it for 1 week, but I read that a normal treatment could be much longer. Is there any risk to taking antibiotics longer than a week?

3. What other tests should I be taking. What about ultrasound or a CT of the area? Why wouldn't the specialist request this?

4. What is causing my testicles to move up and down constantly? It is a really uncomfortable and distracting sensation. Could it be an increased heat caused by the infection? Or could it be the result of torsion of some sort? Are there any treatments for this?

5. If I have an infection, is there a risk of long term complications if it is not treated properly now. For instance, can an acute case of prostatitis become a chronic case due to improper treatment when it first occurs.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Try sitting on the toilet seat for more than a few minutes and tell me if you feel something happening.

Wow, found this trying to figure out my deal.  Basically week ago or so started feeling discomfort in the right testicle and even in lower gut and then two days later the left was flaring up.  I'm  a little over a week into this but the guys dont stop moving.  Im talking up, down, sideways, around like they are doing circus acts.  I get these sudden sharp feeling pains that come then subside but you feel the jolt linger for some time.  Anyone found any answers?

Please help. I'm having the same issue with regards to continual movement up and down of testicles and aching. It has been a couple months like this now. Been to a urologist twice and he says he can't figure out what it is.

Hi,
I am having the same problem, it started with burning sensation in my testicals, then my right testical became swollen and very tender. I tryed to just blow it off thinking the symptoms would go away, not the case. Now my testicals are moving up and down non stop and are very achy. I am absolutley miserable. I've also taken antibiotics, yet my symptoms remain. I'm terrified something horrible is happening inside my body and i dont know what to do...

Hi,

An untreated infection can most difinitely lead to other problems.

From about 1994 to 2003, I used to come down with UTI, kidney infections, epididymitis and orchitis about every 3 to 4 months. In my case this was most likely due to a neurogenic bladder.

After having had numerous cases of epididymistis and orchitis I had a vasectomy in 1999 in the hope that by severing the vas defference infections no longer would involve the testicles. I had read that this used to be done in males undergoing a prostatectomy in order to stop infections from going into the testicles.

Vasectomy had complications in the form of a hematoma. About a year after the vasectomy I ended up loosing my left testicle after a bad infection.

Due to repeated infections in the testicle, the remaining right was not producing enough testosterone. As a result I'm now giving myself monthly testosterone injections to boost the levels. Low testosterone has it's own problems like bone density and muscle loss as well as other problems.

Epididymitis and orchitis can be difficult to get under control and can also be the result of other causes. It is important to get this treated and hopefully find out as to why this is happening. Not allways can a cause be found.

After my left emergency orchiectomy, I have had no more infections of the right testicle.

Problems with the prostate prostatitis continue and I currently have a fistual between the prostate and rectum. On Jan 12 I will have another review and consultation.

The symptoms I have been experiencing just started to happen one week. I didn't have any groin injury that I recall. The urination issue started first, then I began to experience pain and numbness in my right testicle. The swelling then came on pretty quickly. After a couple of weeks my scrotum started to move up and down constantly.

After 6-7 weeks I still feel almost the same as at the start. My doctor and the specialist haven't done much for me, and I am not really sure what to do now.

I really hope someone can help pinpoint what I am experiencing. I am really frustrasted and worried by this situation. I can't imagine spending years with a swollen testicle and constantly moving scrotum. It is kind of destroying my life right now.

By the way, I forgot to mention that I am 43 years old.

Did you get hit in your scrotal area? Or did you just wake up one morning and notice it?
