Uretheral Pain

I just got over a bladder infection 6 days ago but I still have a burning discomfort in my urethera.  I does not hurt when I urinate but it hurts when I am just going about my day.  I went to a urolgist and he gave me 7 more days of antibiotics.  He told me that I still had an infection but I saw the test results and they were all negative.  He said it has to be that because of the symptoms.  Can my urethra just be inflamed from the bladder infection and it needs time to heal??  Has anyone else experienced this.  I don't want to take the antibiotics.

Hi this happened to me after a uti and I kept getting them and I thought the urethral discomfort was because I didn't have time to heal but even when I had had no uti for 11 months I still had the discomfort. I have recently found (after a cystoscopy) that it's due to over sensitive nerves and will need urethral dilation. I'm not saying that's what you have but it's how mine started so just incase the discomfort doesn't go away, ask your doctor for a urology referral. Best of luck.

Hi,
I think you should go ahead with the cystoscopy and need not worry about the worsening of the symptoms as it’s a diagnostic test and helps in establishing the diagnosis. Keep on drinking plenty of fluids. I sincerely hope that helps.

I have not taken the second course of antibiotics yet. I am waiting for my urine culture to come back.  Cipro makes me sick and I don't want to take them unless I have to.  Also he wants to do a Cystoty on me.  Won't that make the symptoms worse?

Hi,
Sometimes the inflammation can persist after the infection has healed resulting in persistent symptoms. You have already taken two courses of antibiotics and I don’t think you need more. I’ll suggest drinking plenty of water as that’ll ensure a faster healing and flush out any residual bacteria. Using some agent which acidifies the urine can also help like alka-citra/alka soda etc. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
