Urge to urinate

For the past 7 weeks I have had an almost constant urge to urinate.  It came on rather sudden when I used the bathroom and noticed I felt I had to go again not more that 5 minutes later.  When I tried to go,  I got maybe four of five drops and then had to go again 30 minutes later.  This was annoying enough to for me to make a doctors appointment the very next day.  My urine test showed nothing abnormal.  My doctor said it may be my prostate and put me on on cipro twice a day for 10 days and wanted to see me the next week.  I returned to the doctors with the symptoms still present, but not as pronounced.  I really wasn't going any more frequent than I always have (I've always thought I have a smaller bladder than most fellas), but the uncomfortable feeling was new.  For a while I've had slow to start flow and even weak at times, stop and start, and dribble-drip-dribble at the end, but the discomfort of feeling I had to go just after finishing was new.  My doctor gave me another 10 days of cipro and referred me to a urologist that same day.  The urologist did an ultra-sound on my bladder and said it was being emptied, but not much else.  No DRE to check the prostate, just basically a question answer session.  He said to come back in a month.
I really don't feel any pain in either urination or ejaculation....the only pain I feel is in my lower back, but that again was something I have before any problems started.

Anyone have any similar experience.  If so, any suggestions on what to do?  Obviously, I'll be back and the urologist in a few weeks, but this is driving me crazy.  THANKS!

Ive had the same symptoms for the last 6 months. Ive been to a urologist had a ultra sound of prostate, kidneys and a scope in my bladder everything looked fine.. I tried 4 weeks of cirpo antibiotics, flomax, detrol, but no improvements! Over the course of a few weeks after my symptoms started i stopped waking up with morning erections and ive recently started having problems maintaining and getting erections, i think due to the constant pressure in my bladder. I don’t know what brought on yer symptoms but i think excessive drinking while on holiday was the cause of my troubles. Other things ye should consider is yeast over growth, muscle strain ie the PC muscle this can cause these symptoms! let me know any updates, successes!

Hi,

This constant urge to urinate may suggest an underlying persistent infection. Complete the second course of your antibiotics and follow up consult with your physician once this has been completed. Management will start from there.

I understand that this may be annoying and in some cases ,it can be debilitating as it affects one's daily activities. Prostatic infections are one of those infections that is difficult to resolve. They may sometimes require antibiotic courses longer than most other urinary tract infections. You may discuss with your physician during your next visit if a transrectal ultrasound for the prostate is indicated just to rule out any prostatic enlargement or swelling.

Chronic forms of prostatitis may not necessarily present with pain, redness and tenderness in the groin or perineal areas. They may present as  discomfort or urinary pattern changes such as urgency and urinary retention.

A prostatic secretion culture should have been done.

Here are some additional tips in keeping the prostate healthy (http://besttreatments.bmj.com/btuk/conditions/1000161436.html):

Drinking more fluids

Making sure you urinate as soon as you need to

Avoiding spicy foods, alcohol, and drinks with caffeine in them (such as tea, coffee and cola) .
Using a laxative (such as lactulose) to soften your stools. This might help if you get pain when you go to the toilet.

Using a comfortable saddle if you ride a bike. You can get special saddles with a gap in the middle that you may want to try.

A weak and intermittent urine flow suggests a possible obstruction and this has to be eventually evaluated once antibiotic therapy fails to alleviate or improve your condition.

I am experiencing exactly the same symptoms. Urianalysis was clear and scans showed that my kidney, bladder and prostate were normal. Strangely I still get this almost constant urge to urinate and I am at the verge of going insane. Any luck on your end?
