Why do I continue to feel pain from epididymitis?

I was told a little over a year ago that I was diagnosed with epididymitis and was told that after a while it was just go away by a general practitioner. I can function normally on everyday basis and I feel fine down there for the most part, but when I do anything like masturbating, it hurts afterwards and I don’t know what to do. I take ibuprofen to make it feel better and it works, but I’m honestly sick of happening and need some guidance on how to fix this reoccuring problem. Should I visit a urologist or just not masturbate for a while? Please help.
