brown seminal fluid

2 weeks ago my husband had prostate cancer screening done. It was one of those community screenings. Done at our local clinic by a uroligist. Now the last two times my husbands semen has been brown colored. The test results for PSA are 1.5 ml, and the digital rectal exam was normal. Could this dr have hurt him in some way? Prostate cancer runs in his family.

Hi
Thanks for the posts. I read all of them. Rare or atypical bacteria mean that UTI is caused by an organism that does not show growth on normal cultures. Certain special cultures are set up for them. Your urologist can help you with this.
Back pain can be due to UTI and prostatitis.
Hope this helps. Take care!

here's an update. went on vac on labor day so went to a walk in clinic cuz I didn't want husband to get worse or sick on vac. They did a urinalysis no culture tests. The urine came back with a trace of blood, epi cells, rare and bacteria, rare. So they gave him ciprofloxacin for 7 days and told us to go to doctor when we get home. That friday (4 days) we went to the urologist who found that my husband was not empting his bladder, 10oz fluid remained. ultasound done, no official report bur dr looked at and said everything looked ok. next step, catheter for a week and uroxatral, to give bladder a break and shrink. He did not give any more antibiotics. We are going back in 4 days to see if catheter worked if not camera next. Whats going on???? are these rare epi cells cancer indicators???? would a mass or cancer show up non an ultrasound? Thank you for talking to me.

Hi
Yes, please inform the doctor. There is a chance that there is some infection, may be prostatitis. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Thanks for your response on brown seminal fluid. I left out some info. My husband is 47, and DID NOT have brown fluid before this  prostate test was done. Should I call the uroligist that did the test and let him know whats going on. my husband also said that the prostate exam hurt and hurt for a 1/2 hr after. He said the doctor didn't use enough lube and was in a hurry. I asked if it was his prostate that hurt or the anus, He said he doesn't know, but he has been checked before and it didn't hurt like that.

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
The brown color in semen is probably due to blood. Blood in semen or hematospermia can be due to several causes like  benign or malignant tumors of the prostate, bladder, testes, or seminal vesicles, infections like chlamydia, herpes, cytomegalovirus, and trichomoniasis, prostatitis, epididymitis, or urethritis,  stone in the seminal vesicles or prostate, polyps in the urethra, obstructions in ejaculation-duct, and cancers of genitourinary system. Get a culture sensitivity test for both semen and urine done. 25% with "normal" PSA scores (< 4 ng/ml) develop prostate cancer. Since your husband has a strong family history, the tests should be further carried out to rule out cancer. Please consult an urologist. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
