fishy smelling pee

I posted a question 24 hours ago and no one has answered me. My 14 year old daughter's urine has a dead fish smell and it is extremely strong. What could be causing this? Could someone please answer this question?

Trimethylaminuria (TMAU) is something you might ask your doctor about. They may have to look it up. This is a genetic condition, and it can be constant or transient. Many of the symptoms depend upon the person's diet. When I say it is genetic, I do not mean that you would also have it, however, I mean that it is something that results from a combination of genes. Bacteria can sometimes affect the body's ability to break down amino acids, and this too must be ruled out. I wish you well in your search for an answer.

Usually the odor from a UTI is described as like ammonia. Glad your daughter is OK. My daughter and I have history of UTI's too.

Thanks, my daughter saw the GYN today. She has an UTI. Of course, she is mad at me because she had to have a pelvic exam and it was her first one. But at least I know she is healthy and doesn't have anything seriously wrong with her. Again, thank you for your comments. I appreciate them very much

Yeast infections do not cause fishy odors but either bacterial vaginosis or trichomonas - both vaginal infections - can cause fishy odor. Your daughter should see her pediatrician or family doctor or GYN, depending on who she has most confidence. If she is sexually active, she needs STD tests too.

She may have an UTI. Does she have any other symptoms? Or possible yeast infection. I have always had trouble with those and I always had one of the two.
